Parador El Cóndor
Near the apex of the route, at around kilometer 65, the Parador El Cóndor is the most established stop on the road — a small café and regional products stall with an open terrace and panoramic views west over the Traslasierra valley. It is also, reliably, one of the best places on the road to see Andean condors without leaving the pavement. The quebradas that fall away from the plateau on both sides generate the thermal updrafts the birds depend on, and they can often be seen drifting over the road or working the air above the canyon rims nearby. The Parque Nacional Quebrada del Condorito — whose 37,344 hectares protect one of the most easterly condor populations in the country — lies just six kilometers to the east; a fire in October 2025 damaged a significant portion of the park, but recovery was well underway by early 2026. The parador's bondiola sandwich has a certain reputation on the road.
